WEIGHBRIDGE

West Quay

By Paul Smith

1st picture was taken by ex Tideway pupil, Paul Smith in 1995. Paul is a keen photographer and you can see this other of his photographs at www.mainlymono.co.uk.

Paul has kindly allowed Our Newhaven to publish his photographs on this site.

2nd photo:  This photo was taken in 2000 just before the redevelopment of the West Quay. Walking along here in 2000 it seemed years since it had been used; I remember the marine aggregates area for the clattering noise overhead and the dripping water landing randomly all around, also the bulging fence in Chapel Street just about holding in the piles of gravel and other aggregates.

Does anybody know anyone who worked the weigh bridge?  Or when was the last weigh-in?

My dad took his 'new' car to be weighed at the weigh bridge and had it backed into by a ballast lorry. He was so upset.

Hi Rob, you need to speak with my dad Ray, he was always in there when the ballast dredgers were.
