J Parson & Sons was owned by Jack Parsons and his son Ken for 46 years.   It ceased trading 19 years ago [1989].

Previously in the 1920’s, Jack Parson’s father ‘Boss’ Hedges owned a fruit and veg shop on the north side of Bridge Street called ‘Hedges’.  It supplied wreathes and crosses, hired motors for private parties and removed furniture.

  • Back in the 70’s when my second son was about 5 his sister and her friend goaded him to steal some plums.  He was caught by Ken Parsons. He says even today he was so glad because it scared him too much to try again.

My son is Craig McIntyre and now based in Germany . A staff sergeant in the 9th/12th Lances, Any one remember him?
