The first photograph taken 1943 in India is of two Newhaven residents.
Cyril Russell with his best mate Bernard Vaughan both being born in Newhaven in 1921.
Cyril was from a large family.
The second picture also taken during the war years is a group Nurses from Newhaven.
One of the nurses in this photograph is Winifred Harriot Russell who married John Macdonald in 1943.
Do you recognise or know any of the others in this picture?
Both pictures can be enlarged by clicking.
We have enhanced the photos slightly before publishing them, hope you like the result Mel.

I was brought up in Newhaven and have been fascinated looking at the Our Newhaven website, especially seeing my name and my twin sisters (Alison & Lindsay Baker) from our class at primary school! Our mother was Mavis Baker who lived on Mount Pleasant from 1958 until going into a care home up here in Suffolk near me 12 years ago. She passed away in 2017.
I was so interested to find a photograph of Winifred Harriet Russell who is stated to have married John MacDonald in 1943. I know they lived at 160 Gibbon Road and then 198 Gibbon Road.
I’m very interested to be in contact with anyone who knew John MacDonald for family reasons.
I’m just wondering if Mel Allen who put up the pictures is know to anyone there?
I would be very grateful if anyone has any information or you could put me touch with anyone who could help?
I’m trying to find out any information about John MacDonald who you mention in this photograph of the nurses?
Would you be able to help me?
