Sovereign Lighthouse 60s

Royal Sovereign under costruction on Eastside Beach. © Hills private collection

Hi we were mods, {peaceful} that came down to Brighton during bank holidays from Hounslow (The Ricky Tik Club) I think it was 1965/66 my friend Bob was a steel fixer working on the Sovereign Lighthouse project on East Side beach, we would be in Brighton in the daytime on Bank holidays with the mods Sat Sun Mondays and because all the workers on Bobs site, Sovereign Lighthouse, went home during Bank Holidays, Bob had the key to the site caravan, we would all pile in, boys &  girls !! at night, then back to Brighton next day. I remember the site construction materials everywhere, steel concrete scattered all over the beach on the east side of the river, the big round concrete base of the lighthouse was completed, steel rods sticking up, watched the ferries in and out. I went back to the beach last year, east beach? completely empty ! had a walk along to the spot where the site was, about 800 metres to the east of the river ?,   so many memories walking along that beach again, happy days, not sure if the sovereign is still out to sea, heard different stories,  it sunk being towed out?  I’m 80 this year, great sharing with you, all the best, regards Peter

Editors note:-
We have added a picture for you Peter that might bring back a few more memories !
