FALAISE AT MARINE WORKSHOPS - Part 1
Opportunity for an off-duty visit - 1970
By Stephen Morris
During 1970 when I was experimenting with my first camera, a Voigtlander vito B, I had the opportunity to make a visit to the Falaise during her winter lay-up.
This was kindly arranged through Chris Fox who lived in Lewes Road and who knew who to ask at the workshops!
I have some interior pictures for another time.
Falaise alongside and what looks like a spare propellor in the dockside paraphernalia.
Ship's bell clearly showing her name.
Builder's nameplate showing her date of construction 1947, and builders Denny of Dumbarton.
Looking back from the bridge
Not a collision with the old swing bridge but a view showing the North Quay in busier times. Note the 2 minesweepers upriver awaiting demolition.
