NEWHAVEN CARNIVAL STAGE SHOW

All Dressed Up 1940s

By Brian Urry

Stage show put on by the Carnival Society sometime in the 40s. I was told that this was at the Church Hall in South Road, but my mother-in-law, now 87, has trouble remembering.

I can help out a little with this. The lady on the left (standing up) is Dorothy Hill (nee Carr) and the man 3 from the right is Ernest Swadling (for many years President of the Carnival Society). I think it was probably taken in the Hall in South Street but I don't think it was the Church Hall. I think the building was the original Shakespeare Hall which has now been replaced with flats (29 South Road). It was used for Carnival Society shows in my youth.
