WAIT FAMILY

Family research

By John Hills

We have received the following email from Christine Poole regarding her family tree.

Hi,

I have been looking into the Wait side of my family and find from the 1921 Census they were living at 54 Meeching Rd. Two of the household worked for Hughes Motor Works. The head of the household Henry Wait was a retired Coal Dealer for Clarke Sharp. Any idea if they were a Newhaven/Brighton Company?

Yours sincerely Christine Poole.

On carrying some research its seems a H. Wait Coal Merchant traded from a coal yard in Bridge Street area of Newhaven in the 1900's, marked by yellow cross on picture below.

Also we have found a S. Wait in a school photo from c1916 HERE who may be a branch of Christine's tree!

I seem to remember a Wait family in a shop in South Road possibly about number 44/48 along from my Grandfathers Fish & Chip shop ( C W Collington) who traded from number 18 in the 1940/50's.

Can you help any further regarding the Wait family?

My grandfather Francis Wait had an older brother Henry Wait (same name as his Father) and born in 1903. People who posted here may remember his relations?
