Postcard Newhaven Harbour and London and Paris Hotel. Posted in 1919

Text on reverse reads:-

"This is a funny place; no shops, no public house & no church. About 6 houses and we have to go by train (2d) to Seaford or Newhaven for even a sweet or loaf. It is lovely tho & you would all like it. No Pictures Houses tho."

Must have been staying in Tidemills !.

The ship on the left is "Lyons" or Italy" The ship at the right is most likely to be "Rennes I" and the funnel behind "Lyons" probably belongs to "Dieppe III". All typical of the 'Dieppe Screws', the small cargo ships that ran between the ports right up to 1966.

As "Rennes I" left the route in 1891, the photo must predate that.
